Artist Statement
I never really considered myself an artist before I came to Hunter College. I’ve always been affiliated with the title “Athlete” because sports has been been a part of my life since the age of 5. I tried drawing, painting, and singing but it wasn’t for me. Soccer, football, basketball now those are things I really enjoy. Two years into college I decided to become a media major in the efforts to get a career in sports. As I began to take on these media classes, I’ve realized how much I enjoy film, photography and graphic design. Ultimately I want to leave Hunter College as both an Athlete and an Artist. I want to combine my interests in sports with art. Whether that’s photography or film. I want to develop my own unique style, that’ll make me stand out. I get these images and ideas in my head of what a good video might look like, that’ll really captivate with an audience, the problem is I have no idea how to put that on screen. I’m always open to learning new skills and techniques. When I’m watching a show or movie I’m always arguing with myself on how that scene could’ve been portrayed better, or what song would’ve worked better for this particular scene. I don’t plan on making a career out of the arts, I rather have this as a hobby, reason being is because it’s difficult to make money in this line of work. Being that I am the first in my family to go into college I want to find a career that’ll not only make my parents proud but also help our economic status. I hope to keep cinema and photography as a hobby and interest of mine for the rest of my life.
